Originally thought to debut at the ongoing 2012 New York Auto Show, the next generation of the Beetle Convertible is now said to make its world premiere at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show this fall before it reaches dealerships in the first quarter of 2013, or at least that's what company officials told Car&Driver. Honda CR-V Driver Loses Control and Flips Over at the N?rburgring Circuit
True, anyone can go to the N?rburgring in Germany for a quick lap around the world's most famous racetrack, but that doesn't mean they should overdo it as common sense says they must be cautious and know the their own as well as their vehicle's limits. Plus, what looks like a regular, previous generation Honda CR-V equipped with a... sic bull bar isn't exactly the type of vehicle you"d like to push too much at high speeds on the Nordschleife. The driver of the Japanese crossover lost control of the vehicle as he came out of a quick corner and ended flipping over the guardrail. The accident, as you can imagine, is a very scary one indeed. A Chrysler Group 1967 Imperial Crown Coupe Looking for a New Home on eBay
Once upon a time, the Chrysler Corporation had a luxury marque amongst its ranks called Imperial, which was basically created to compete against GM's Cadillac and Ford's Lincoln brands. To be more precise, what started out as Chrysler's top of the line model in 1926 was turned into a separate brand from 1955 to 1975, and again for a brief period from 1990 to 1993. Some of you may also remember the Chrysler Group's more recent attempt to resurrect the Imperial nameplate with a luxury sedan concept at the 2006 North American Auto Show in Detroit. While surfing around on eBay, a 1967 Imperial Crown Coupe caught our attention. This example was designed under the supervision of Elwood Engel, Chrysler Corporation's design chief from 1961 until 1974.
Scion FR-S Speedster is a Concept Car Created by Cartel Customs
As it turns out, we were right to assume that the open-top 2013 Scion FR-S spotted at this past weekend's Formula Drift event in Long Beach, California, was a tuning concept. The speedster version of the Scion FR-S was created by Cartel Customs, a California-based company headed by Jeremy Lookofsky, which specializes in the design and manufacturing of custom display vehicles and motorcycles. While the name may not ring a bell, you've probably seen some of Cartel's work at previous SEMA shows such as last year's Scion iQ Pit Bull, the 2010 Scion xB Stretch Limousine and the 2009 Scion tC Low Rider concepts. The company's new Scion FR-S Speedster drops the coupe's top and most of the interior appointments gaining a two-seat configuration with a mid-mounted instrument panel.
Notorious: Five Ugly Formula 1 Cars and their Nicknames
January 26th was a day that the international media as well as countless racing enthusiasts had been waiting for since the 2011 Formula 1 season finished two months earlier. Caterham launched its new challenger, the CT01, and by the evening everyone was talking about one of the car"s features in particular. Located on the CT01"s nose was what can best be described as an awkward-looking step and the press quickly began referring to the design as the "platypus nose." Over the course of the following weeks, almost every team on the 2012 Formula 1 grid launched their own version of the design and it became apparent that the "Platypus nose" was here to stay. More than 140,000 2012MY Ford Focus Sedans and Hatchbacks Recalled Over Wiper Problem
In a posting on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) website, Ford said that it is recalling certain Focus cars from the 2012 model year in the States to fix a potential problem with a windshield wiper wiring harness connector. Spikes! Driver Crashes Ferrari F512M Driver to Save Hedgehog
A man in Lower Saxony, Germany is making headlines today in Europe and around the world after he smashed his 1995 Ferrari F512M (the last Testarossa) in a bid to avoid hitting a spiky hedgehog. According to the police report, 53-year old businessman Joerg Daecher, was driving back home on Friday morning on a highway that goes through a forest in Eschershausen when he saw the small animal trying to cross the road. Maybe it was the Easter spirit or Daecher's love for animals, but rather than hitting the creature, the man swerved, lost control of the Italian supercar and ended up crashing into the steel barrier. Car Prices Hit Record Highs in the U.S., Average Transaction up 7 from Last Year
The U.S. auto market is gaining momentum after the recession which led to the bankruptcy of the General Motors and Chrysler groups, but so are median car prices. According to TrueCar.com, the average transaction price for new light vehicles in the States reached $30, 748 in March 2012, an increase of $1, 977 or 6.9 percent from March 2011 and $143 or 0.5 percent from February 2012. Most analysts seem to agree that one of the reasons why average prices are on a rise is that automakers are constantly reducing big cash-back offers and other incentives. Chrysler Introduces Industry-First In-Vehicle Wireless Charging Pad
The idea of wireless charging smaller or in some cases, even larger devices is nothing new, but the Chrysler Group wants to be the first to offer such a system on cars through its Mopar division. General Motors had presented a wireless cell phone mat on a Chevrolet Volt at last year's CES in Las Vegas with the intent to begin offering the system on numerous Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac products from the second half of 2012. However, the Chrysler Group seems bent to be the first to provide an in-vehicle wireless charging pad as it will make the technology available on the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart that arrives in showrooms in the second quarter of this year.
