That McLaren is readying a roadster version of the MP4-12C as well as a spiritual successor to the famed F1 supercar is nothing new, but after visiting the British company's headquarters in Woking, Car&Driver claims to have some new tidbits about the two cars. We will begin with the open-top MP4-12C that is likely to carry the Spider moniker. The report says that this model's debut has been confirmed for later this year, which means we could see it as early as September at the Paris Motor Show - unless McLaren prefers another event like the L.A. 72mph Hyundai Sonata Sudden Acceleration Accident Hits the Mainstream Media
Last Wednesday, we shared with you a video of an accident that took place in South Korea a couple of days earlier and which concerned a latest generation 2009 Hyundai Sonata YF sedan that allegedly took off by itself due to a sticky accelerator pedal plowing into another car at high speed. The story has since been picked up by mainstream media in Korea and across the world, including CNN, ABC and even the Wall Street Journal. In Korea, the video of the accident sparked a government-led investigation whilst Hyundai itself, while refusing interviews to talk about the incident issued a brief statement saying, "The vehicle is being investigated by the Korean National Forensic Service. There is no time estimate for the conclusion of the investigation.
Lexus Conducts Voluntary Safety Recall of 2013 GS F Sport Sedan Over Steering Problem
Only a few months after reaching showrooms in the U.S., the 2013 Lexus GS sedan has suffered its first recall, or to be precise, a voluntary safety recall. However, not all GS variants are affected as the recall concerns approximately 650 units of the 2013 GS 350 rear-wheel drive model with the F Sport package to update the Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) electronic control unit (ECU) calibration. French carmaker Peugeot wants a piece of the pie in the popular family sedan segment in Russia with the launch of its locally built 408 saloon, which is already offered in several other regions around the world including China and South America. The 408, which is a four-door sedan version of Peugeot's 308 hatchback with a 100mm longer wheelbase, goes on sale in Russia with a starting price of 549, 000 rubles (US$18, 000 / 14, 000). SCOOP: 2014 MINI Cooper Hatchback to Inaugurate Platform Sharing with BMW
The designers over at Mini have both the easiest and toughest job in the auto industry. Why? Because, while they do not have to reinvent the wheel with each passing generation of the Cooper hatchback, they also have to keep the styling fresh and with the times. That said, we were not expecting a radical redesign of the next Mini Cooper codenamed F56 that our crafty spies captured testing in Europe. Perhaps the most visible change to the styling of the F56 are the new headlamps that sit less upright stretching more towards the back. Other noteworthy differences we spotted on the prototype is the slightly longer front overhang and the more rakish front and rear windshields compared to the current, second generation of the hardtop model since BMW took over the British company's fates.
